Princess Margaret of Prussia, affectionately known as "Mossy" within her family, was a granddaughter of the legendary Queen Victoria and a princess in her own right. Born in 1872, she was the youngest child of Frederick III, German Emperor, and Victoria, Princess Royal. This gave her a prominent position in European royalty and close ties to the British monarchy.
At the age of 20, she married Prince Frederick Charles of Hesse. The couple had six sons, and what makes their family unique is that four of those sons were born as twins!
Her first set of twins, Friedrich Wilhelm and Maximilian, arrived in 1893 and 1894. Tragically, both young men were later killed in action during World War I. A few years later, Margaret gave birth to another set of twins, Philipp and Wolfgang.
Margaret's life, though filled with the privileges of royalty, was also touched by tragedy. She witnessed the horrors of both World Wars and the loss of her sons. Yet, her story remains a captivating glimpse into a bygone era of European history.
